Werner Surbeck, MD, PhD. Postdoc/Attending physician
Werner studied medicine at the University of Zurich. After his training in neurosurgery, he specialized in epilepsy surgery and functional neurooncology before completing a PhD on the electrophysiological investigation of the insular region. At present, he undergoes additional specialty training in psychiatry. In the VELAS study, Werner investigates brain-based semantic processing abnormalities in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, together with Noemi and their team of students.

- 2010: Participation in the development and patent co-owner of a new type of hybrid electrode for intracranial EEG recording from the insula and the hidden surfaces of the opercula. The electrode is fabricated by Ad-Tech Medical Instrument Corporation. Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, Canada.
