SNF Project Start in Bari
Treatment resistance indicators from mechanisms in schizophrenia (TRIMS)
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has awarded 2.5 million Swiss francs to our new multinational TRIMS project led by the University of Zurich (Philipp), in collaboration with the Universities of Bari (Prof. Giulio Pergola) and University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland Fribourg (Prof. Elena Mugellini). The project aims to understand why some people with schizophrenia do not respond to standard medications, and when switching to clozapine is warranted.
This decision is currently often made too late, with significant consequences for patients. To address this, the TRIMS consortium will develop a data-driven decision support system to help clinicians identify the right moment for a switch to clozapine. The goal is to reduce unnecessary exposure to medications that do not help, thereby improving care for people with schizophrenia.
The project was officially started in Bari last week, where the TRIMS consortium had the pleasure to meet in person and enjoy the hospitality of the Bari team. For more information on the project, make sure to visit our project website https://trims.uzh.ch!
